Responsible
for providing health care for the ships crew and any visiting personal. The
medical department is a key facility aboard the USS Sirius. Do to the ships
hazardous mission, and the vast range of life forms that the ship may encounter
on its journey through the Delta quadrant. Increases the importance of the medical
department.
Supervised by the chief medical officer, the medical department is situated in two sick bay facilities on deck four. Located in the center of the saucer section, sickbay consists of two intensive care wards an attached laboratory, the CMO’s office, and a physical therapy facility, installed EMH. In addition to the primary sickbay the second facility, also located on deck four. Features a nursery, null-grav therapy ward, a dental care office and a full biohazard isolation unit. In a large scale medical emergency situation, both shuttle bays can be converted into medium intensive-care wards

Under normal conditions the medical department is staffed by three physicians, two medical technician, and six registered nurses. Typical on-duty medical complement for first shift and second shift is one staff physician, two nurses, and one medical technician. Staffing figures are subject to the patient load. In emergency situations cross-trained personnel from other departments can be made available for medical duty. Approximately 30% of all the Sirius’s crew are cross-trained for various secondary medical functions. Four more personnel staff the additional research and laboratories during normal duty status.
