Though over the years there has been a variety of starfleet uniforms. One key element that has remained over the past few decades. Is the well established colour scheme.

Normally located on the upper half of the uniform, the colour is used to distinguish the department the crewmen is from.

List of currently used colours and their meaning:

• Red - Command Department
• Gold - Tactical & Engineering departments
• Teal - Science and Medical departments

Uniform variations

Starfleet has a variety of uniform for it's personnel. Each with a specific application in mind. Be it for diplomatic or social occasions. Starfleet has also produced and individual uniform for it's high ranking officer.

Extravehicular Activity

Starfleet use EVA suits, whenever they need to work in the vaccum of space or any hazardous environment. The suits are capable of protecting the wearer against pressure from 0 - 5 atmospheres and allows them to stay comfortable in temperatures of -100 degree's C to 120 degree's C.

Providing 25 hours of air, it also includes magnetic boots to enable movement across a vessels outer hull. The wearer can control and monitor all of the suits functions. Via it's control panel, mounted on the forearm.

Located on the neck of all starfleet uniforms, is one or more pins designating rank. The common design for a rank pin is gold and circular in shape. This design is worn by all commissioned officer.

None commissioned officer are issued pin's, but with the noticeable difference of colour.
